The Rio Sordo Barbaresco DOCG 2017 from the Musso winery is a wine that originates from the vineyard of about one hectare located in the Geographic Mention "Rio Sordo", where the soil is decidedly calcareous and clayey, and the beautiful southwest exposure makes a difference. Grape varieties: 100% Nebbiolo. Soil: here the soil is compact, with a prevalence of limestone and a good presence of clay. This creates a soil that strongly contributes to the characterization of the wine, which has a firm structure and a strong ability to withstand the ravages of time. Altitude: between 250 and 300 meters above sea level. Vinification: the harvesting of the grapes is done manually with careful selection of the bunches. After crushing with the removal of the stems, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks with a long maceration (18-20 days): the mass is kept with the cap submerged and is subject to periodic pumping over to improve the color and olfactory breadth. The fermentation temperature remains below 28-30°C. Maturation: at the end of the tumultuous fermentation, racking is performed. Thus, the new wine begins its maturation process, spending the first 12 months in 50 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels and the subsequent 6 months in smaller wooden containers (20 hectoliters). Bottling: after almost two years from vinification, in the summer of the second year after harvesting, the Barbaresco "Rio Sordo" is bottled. The darkness, silence, and almost constant temperature of the underground cellars help the wine to undergo the first phases of aging in the bottle: thus it remains at least 7-8 months in the cellar before going to market. Vintage: 2017. Alcohol content: 14.5%.
