Wine Duca di Montalbo Rosso IGT, alcohol: 14% vol, format: 750 ml. This wine features a beautiful deep ruby red color, and is intense and rich in tertiary aromas, well preserved, with evident spicy notes such as tobacco and pepper, along with balsamic hints reminiscent of morello cherry matrices. On the palate, it offers a warm and full taste, with smooth tannins aged by time and a great persistence, making it suitable for the most special moments, so much so that it is defined as a "meditation" wine. The Wine Duca di Montalbo Rosso IGT is dedicated to the Duke of Montalbo, founder of Campobello di Licata, an ancient landowner of these lands, and is our finest red wine. This family Gran Cru is accompanied by the Family Selection. Our wine was born in the mid-nineties, using very old vines, over 50 years old, with a lower yield, to create a wine for long aging, based on Nero d'Avola and Nerello Cappuccio, cultivated in the areas of Milici and Montalbo. Aging requires patience, time, and extreme care to release a surprising complexity and elegance in the glass: 24 months in oak barrels, at least 7 years of maturation in steel, and over a year of bottle aging. The sensory notes include well-preserved tertiary aromas, spicy and balsamic notes, with a warm, long taste and a remarkable structure well supported by ripe tannins. The characteristics of the wine include particular selections of Nero d'Avola and Nerello Cappuccio. The soil is of marl origin, with a high clay content and strongly limestone. The training systems used are Guyot and spurred cordon. The harvest takes place at the end of October, through a manual selection of the bunches in 14 kg boxes. During vinification, the grapes are hand-selected, de-stemmed, and transferred to vertical fermenters, where the must undergoes periodic pump-overs, followed by a long maceration on the skins. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels for the Nero d'Avola, while large casks are used for the Nerello Cappuccio. Maturation lasts about 48 months in barrels and large casks, followed by a period in steel tanks, with a final aging in the bottle. This wine is our most precious red, produced only with the best vintages and using the oldest vineyards to guarantee quality. The cru is decisive: the Montalbo district is characterized by a 100% limestone marl, a "lunar" soil surprisingly suitable for the long maturation of red wines. The sensory notes are manifested with an intense red color and violet reflections. On the nose, it is fresh and elegant, with hints of fresh red fruit, including blackberry, raspberry, and plum, finishing with spicy notes and aromatic vegetable hints like rosemary and thyme. On the palate, the Wine Duca di Montalbo Rosso IGT is powerful and structured, with exceptionally high-quality tannins, silky and elegant. It is full-bodied and fresh, revealing great taste persistence. For the Milazzo family, producing wines is a true "family matter," having started as the first producers of sparkling wines using the classic method in Sicily. The Milazzo family, with Giuseppina Milazzo and Saverio Lo Leggio, has continued to enhance the corporate tradition from the first Sicilian viticulturists between the late seventies and the early eighties, exalting the winemaking from indigenous Sicilian grape varieties. The company is committed to sustainability and has obtained ISO and organic certifications, accepting the challenge of continuous change. It is currently involved in the program for carbon footprint analysis along the entire production chain. The goal is to guarantee the quality of our wines by adopting low environmental impact cultivation techniques. The story of sustainability begins in the `90s with Maria Costanza, an ancestor of the family, who dedicated herself to vine cultivation. In the post-war years, the company shifted from producing table grapes to wine production, and in 1982 the brand "Martin Pescatore" was registered. In 2004, the company obtained its first ISO certification for environmental management, followed by organic certification in 2012. Today, we are committed to reducing CO2 emissions and are participating in programs to further improve sustainability.
