Vino Maria Costanza Rosso Dop Bio is the most intense expression of our interpretation of the Sicilian grape par excellence, the NERO D'AVOLA. Worked in purity, the Nero d'Avola grapes are the result of a particular selection of this grape variety, originating from the ancient vineyards of the property cultivated in the Giuseppina area. Aging: a minimum of four years of aging, including 18 months in oak barrels, 3-4 years of maturation in steel, and 1 year of refinement in the bottle. A family story: for the Milazzo family, producing wines is a true "family matter" that has made them the first producers of sparkling wines using the classic method in Sicily. A path that continues in the name of enhancing company tradition, with Giuseppina Milazzo and Saverio Lo Leggio, a couple in life, united in the desire to give continuity to Milazzo production. Among the first Sicilian winemakers, between the late seventies and early eighties, to enhance the vinification of indigenous Sicilian grape varieties. This has allowed, over the years, along with other excellent names, the recovery of the island's winemaking tradition without neglecting experimentation and innovation, which has led, among others, to the adoption in Sicily of Chardonnay grapes with the precise aim of producing a great sparkling wine Metodo Classico Siciliano. A sustainable company: ISO and Organic certifications. Being a sustainable company means accepting the challenge of continuous change, working well today to produce better tomorrow. Currently, it is also engaged in the carbon footprint analysis program throughout the production chain. We want to guarantee the quality of our work through a path that effectively combines low environmental impact cultivation techniques with innovation in the various stages of production of our wines and classic method sparkling wines. Our steps towards sustainability: early 1900s – Maria Costanza – family ancestor – a strong and determined woman, personally dedicated to grape cultivation and winemaking; it was she who oversaw all processing phases. A small winery in Campobello di Licata, but even then, the wine produced was highly appreciated by the local clientele. In the post-war years, grape production for wine was joined by table grape production. By the end of the 1960s, new vineyards for wine grape production replaced table grape cultivation, thus beginning a new phase in the family history. The Azienda Agricola G. Milazzo was born not simply to make wine and become a profitable enterprise, but above all, to be a company dedicated to the obsessive pursuit of quality and continuous improvement. 1982: registration of the "Martin Pescatore" brand which had already been used, in the post-war years and until the early sixties, for the commercialization of table grapes on international markets. 2004: first certification: UNI ENI ISO 14001 for the activation of the Environmental Management System. 2007: the long-standing choice not to use synthetic chemicals begins to be certified. This year marks the beginning of the mandatory conversion period, which will lead to organic product certification concluding in 2012. 2008: UNI EN ISO 9001 certification for the Quality Management System and UNI EN ISO 22005 for Traceability of the production chain, which runs from fertilization to pruning and all the work in the vineyards, to wine production in the cellar, and up to customer deliveries. 2012: Organic certification, which represented both the goal and the new starting point of our production journey opening us to new challenges. Our Martin Pescatore brand is now accompanied by the European organic brand. A journey that started in 2007 and concluded in 2012, with the achievement of the definitive certificate (Certificate No. 2500/I rev. 02). A commitment that concerns not only our 75 hectares of vineyards but the entire Milazzo property, which today counts around 110 hectares total. Every single parcel of the company, even if not planted with vines, is already certified or in the process of "conversion" to organic certification. A fundamental choice. The only one that allows us, for the future, to continue planting vineyards in accordance with our motto: we guarantee the genuineness of our wines. 2013: a new challenge opens. That for the reduction of CO2 emissions (carbon) at every phase of production (from the field to the consumer). We decide to join the Ita.Ca. protocol for the development of a carbon footprint calculation tool, an international "calculator", already used in Italy, Australia, California, and New Zealand, specially adapted to the Italian production model of vine and wine by researchers and technicians from the SATA group and the University of Milan, in collaboration with Australian colleagues. 2013: participation in the call issued by the Ministry of the Environment for carbon footprint analysis in mass consumer products. Another completed step. Today we are among the 95 Italian companies from various industrial sectors and the only Sicilian winery admitted to the program. (http://www.minambiente.it/pagina/il-bando-pubblico-2013) 2014: doing business, consuming, and polluting less represents a complex challenge both scientifically and organizationally. But we are, first and foremost, men and women of the land, and we believe we have only one choice: to protect the environment so it can continue to provide us with healthy and good fruits. Within the Ministry's project, we are now engaged in obtaining the ISO/TS 14067 Carbon footprint of the product certification (Certification system of the methodology for quantifying the product carbon footprint) that will validate the method with which we are collecting and analyzing data on our CO2 emissions, to then identify the best technical solutions for the effective reduction of our "carbon footprint".
