Monkey 47: its story The original recipe of Monkey 47 is attributed to the former English commander Montgomery Collins, who retired to Germany and became friends with a little monkey named Max. Years later, Alexander Stein, former Nokia manager, decided to return to his home country Loßburg, in the Black Forest, and start producing a unique gin in the world inspired by Montgomery's ancient recipe found by chance in a hotel. In honor of the one who inspired it, Stein decided to name the gin Monkey 47, using 47 to highlight both the number of botanicals and the alcohol content. Monkey 47: its characteristics The shape of the bottle is based on an old pharmaceutical vial noticed in a shop window by Alexander Stein; the brown pharmaceutical glass is a quality choice since this material better protects the liquid inside from UV rays; the label takes on the shape of a postage stamp from the Victorian colonial era and encapsulates the entire history of the brand: the Black Forest, the botanicals, the monkey.
