Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP cherry tomatoes: there is so much history surrounding these incredible cherry tomatoes. Their color is so vivid and red that they are also called fiery... some add a touch of poetry and say that fiery comes from the fact that their roots feed on the lava of Vesuvius. Piennolo gets its name because the clusters of cherry tomatoes are hung from pendulums (piennoli) and left to dry naturally in the cool, salty breezes of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The sun, the wind, the sea and the scorched earth are the secrets of this extraordinary fruit, rich in sugars and mineral salts, sweet and tangy, with dense, full flesh, few seeds and two lenticular sections dividing it in half.
