Neapolitan Casatiello is one of the most traditional baked products of the Neapolitan food and wine culture. Panificio Rosa Maria Vittoria brings back an ancient recipe from an important Neapolitan culinary master, Salvatore Esposito, famous for preparing one of Queen Elizabeth of England's wedding cakes in 1947. Casatiello is typically a savory Easter cake, but the Molise bakery makes it available all year round! Casatiello: the egg-free recipe In the past, culinary art was not shared as it is today and many recipes were secret. Salvatore Esposito guarded every recipe like a precious jewel, and only some of them were passed down to his children. Once his niece also became part of the Rosa Maria Vittoria family by marrying his son, she gave the Molise bakery the precious Casatiello recipe. Salvatore Esposito was opposed to the hard-boiled eggs that decorated the savory cake, partly for hygiene reasons and partly because they broke during transport. Panificio Rosa Maria Vittoria therefore decided to faithfully reproduce Salvatore Esposito's original Casatiello.
