The Freiherr Merlot Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2019 from Cantina Merano is a spicy, full-bodied red wine with a high aging potential that can challenge the great names in its circle. On old vines sheltered at the foot of Montefranco thrive small-berried grapes of the highest quality and excellent phenolic maturity. The cordon-trained structure is hand-worked, the grapes are selected individually. Only a few clusters, those with the smallest berries, remain on the vines. The hand-harvested clusters then mature in new and used barriques for a wine of true greatness. Grape varieties: 100% Merlot. Soils: light, permeable and of morainic origin. Age of the vines: 15 years. Winemaking: fermentation takes place in contact with the skins for about 10-15 days; followed by biological malolactic fermentation. After 16 months of aging in barriques and oak barrels, the wine is bottled.
