
This extraordinary Dark Red DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli by Scubla is the result of selecting the best Merlot grapes for 90% with a remainder of overripe Refosco dal peduncolo rosso. The true top of the range of Scubla reds! Grapes: 80% Merlot, 20% Refosco dal peduncolo rosso. Location and vineyards: hilly marl soils; selection of the best grapes harvested after the normal ripening, especially more markedly for the Refosco. The selection is based on the ripeness and color of the bunches. Training in modified double overturned (cappuccina). Harvest: manual, after mid-October; 55-60 quintals per hectare. Winemaking: fermentation occurs in steel for about 16 days of contact with the skins, after the racking the wine matures for about 18 months in barriques and tonneaux made of French oak, 50% new and 50% of different ages, then for another 10 days blended in steel, followed by bottle aging for 3 months. Acidity: 4.6 g/l Year: 2012 Alcohol percentage: 14 %.
