This Jianzhan Tenmoku tea cup with Oil Spot style is a typical Chinese gongfu tea cup. Inside, there is a silver lotus, a magnificent decoration for the finest teas. The Jianzhan material (also known as Tenmoku ceramics) has been used to create cups and accessories for tea ceremonies since the Song dynasty. In China, it is called Jianzhan, while in Japan it is known as Tenmoku ceramics. The artist You Wen uses local iron-rich clay as the material to make the glaze and body, before firing it at 1300 degrees Celsius in the oven. The rich iron content allows for a specific clay to be made, which is used for all tea and alcoholic accessories traditionally consumed. Origin: Fujian, China.
