The Red Tea (black) Yunnan Golden Snail is a precious medium intensity black tea that is perfectly balanced, originating from the Ning’er County in Yunnan Province, China. The term Dian Hong means "Red from Yunnan", referring to its origin and type, while Jin Luo, meaning "Golden Snail", describes its characteristic shape, achieved by manually rolling the leaves into small spirals, similar to the renowned green tea Bi Luo Chun. Origin and Tradition The Autonomous Hani and Yi County of Ning’er is located in the Pu’er Prefecture, next to the homonymous city. This region has a long history of tea cultivation, with roots dating back over 2,000 years. However, the production of black tea is relatively recent, having started in 1938 in Feng Qing County. Thanks to its balanced flavor and lack of astringency, Dian Hong quickly established itself as one of the most appreciated black teas, characterized by a full body and sweet malty notes. This tea is produced exclusively with Yunnan Large Leaf leaves, the same variety used for the precious pu-erh teas of the region. Each bud and leaf is hand-picked in spring and then rolled until it assumes the typical snail shape. In the finished product, the golden and black spirals can be clearly distinguished, elegantly unfolding during infusion, revealing their unique structure. Aroma and Taste The brewed liquor has a deep amber color and a medium body structure. The aroma is gently savory, with hints of rye bread and soy sauce. In taste, the Dian Hong Jin Luo Golden Snail stands out for its malty sweetness, reminiscent of freshly baked sweet bread, with notes of cocoa and molasses that make each sip a warm and refined experience. Place of origin Yunnan, China Infusion method We strongly recommend infusing this tea in the traditional Chinese method (Gong Fu Cha) using a Gaiwan with a capacity of about 100 ml. Following this preparation, with 5 grams of leaves, multiple infusions can be made to fully experience all the flavors of the tea. After a quick rinse of the leaves with water at 80-90°C, one can proceed to a first infusion of 5 seconds, and subsequently, keeping the water at the same temperature, continue to enjoy the product by adding more water and increasing the infusion time by about 10 seconds from the previous (5 – 15 – 25…). For a more traditional preparation in the Western style, we recommend 3 grams of leaves (about 2 teaspoons) in a 150 ml cup with water at 80-90°C for an infusion time of one and a half minutes. For a better tasting experience, we suggest filtering the infusion as soon as the established maceration time is completed. The infusion times can be slightly adjusted to taste for a more or less intense flavor. It is advisable to store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Benefits of Red Tea (black) The category of red teas has the least impact on our body due to the stability reached by the product thanks to its complete oxidation. For this reason, red tea is one of the best choices for those who want to have a hot drink without calories available at all times. Although to a small extent, the leaves of this category provide polyphenols and minerals beneficial to the body without providing too much caffeine, thus promoting a pleasant relaxing effect.
