The Cimbri are a Germanic people who arrived from Bavaria around 1300 in Verona, in Veneto. Mostly shepherds and farmers, woodcutters and simple sheep breeders. Verona at that time was governed by the Scaligers, large owners of Brogne sheep that produced fine wool. They asked Cangrande della Scala for help and were offered the opportunity to manage the herds on the Lessini mountains, which were uninhabited at that time, also governing the territory. Even today, the stone pastures built with the ancient Bavarian interlocking technique can be distinguished. With them also began the activity of cheese production which has remained in the tradition of preparing Monte Veronese DOP. A very appealing and unique cheese in its own right.
